An exploration of male gender liberation inspired by Delacroix's "Liberty Leading the People". The definition of the verb "liberate" is to set some free from a situation esp. imprisonment or slavery. Through viewing this definition in the eyes of a sadomasochistic gay male, I created work which expressed the extremities largely via photography. I must force past this, I need to force past this, I will liberate myself.

148 years since I created my final piece of work and I have decided on a new angle, romanticism is now dead. Visits to contemporary galleries and the Turner Prize exhibitions has made me realise that its isn't enough for me oppose the sterile conventions of David and the others, I must oppose the world; therefore I have made a conscious decision start with myself.
In order to oppose myself, I must start to find what limits me. Thoughts about gender from finding work by Judith Butler have begun to circulate my head. Does gender limit us?
I have been drawing all day trying to grasp the concept of castration and the constraints of gender within myself, yet nothing seems to work.

Today my theory on gender is up in the air, is it possible that the removal of genitalia for some males is liberation? If so surely it is in its most brutal form.
Received an "e-mail" today from David Bailey, he has agreed to show me how the modern version of a Camera Obscura works. Maybe photography is key?
